Michael A. Gaul focuses his practice in the areas of business and municipal law and in civil litigation related to those areas. In connection with his representation of governmental entities, Mr. Gaul has also served as bond counsel in public finance transactions, and is a member of the firm's Public Finance Practice Group.
As part of his practice, Mr. Gaul has counseled both public and private employers on labor and employment matters and represented and employers in arbitrations, before administrative agencies and in the courts.
Another aspect of Mr. Gaul's practice is Real Estate Law. He has regularly represented municipal and private clients in local land use matters, construction prospects, affordable housing matters and litigation involving real estate disputes.
Mr. Gaul is a graduate of Boston College University, where he received his B.A. in English in 1988. After graduation, he volunteered for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, working as a resident assistant at a dormitory grade school located on the Colville Indian Reservation near Omak, Washington. In 1990, Mr. Gaul entered the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. While at law school, he served as a research assistant to Professor George Cohen, now a tenured professor at the University of Virginia, and served two years as an editor of the school's Journal of Law and Commerce. In 1993, Mr. Gaul received his Juris Doctorate, graduating cum laude. Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Gaul served as a judicial clerk to Judge Peter Paul Olszewski of Pennsylvania Superior Court and later to Judge Linda Wallach Miller of the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Mr. Gaul has served as the Solicitor to the Borough of Portland in Northampton County since 1998, and has served as a Solicitor to the Bangor Area School District Regional Economic Development Authority since its inception in 2003. In 2005, Mr. Gaul served as an Assistant Solicitor for Northampton County on labor and employment matters. In 2006, Mr. Gaul was appointed as a solicitor to the Allentown Commercial and Industrial Development Authority. He has also served as counsel to many other municipalities, school districts, and governmental authorities. In 2007 and 2008, Mr. Gaul served as alternate solicitor for the Zoning Hearing Boards of Paradise Township in Monroe County and Wilson Borough in Northampton County.
Since 2003, Mr. Gaul has been an adjunct professor of Small Business Law at Northampton Community College. Mr. Gaul has served as a member of the East Stroudsburg Borough Recreation Board and the Stroud Area Regional Open Space Planning Commission. He is a member of the Lower Nazareth Township, Northampton County Environmental Advisory Council. He also has been acitvely involved in Big Brother Big Sister since 1996. |
